The Challenge
Locating and inspecting life safety devices at regular intervals, as prescribed by the various code compliance authorities, poses a daunting challenge to most facilities. Northwestern Medicine in Chicago was no exception, with hundreds of life safety devices scattered throughout its Northwestern Memorial Hospital campus alone.
A campus of this size and complexity needed a total solution—one that would include a survey to locate and identify all its life safety devices, as well as provide smart tools to manage and inspect those devices, easily and intuitively. Northwestern approached ATG for a solution.
The Solution
To meet the organization’s objectives, ATG implemented its Life Safety Manager™ (LSM) solution. First, we located and barcoded all campus life safety devices. Then we gave campus personnel mobile technology to document inspections and test the results of those devices in campus buildings.
LSM is integrated into ATG’s powerful cloud platform, the Active Visual System® (AVS). Inspection results are captured with ATG apps on mobile devices, then synchronized with corresponding locations in Northwestern’s existing CAD files. This gives facility management personnel intuitive, visual access to life safety inspection data without requiring any CAD software or additional training.
The Results
ATG’s Life Safety Manager solution was so successful at Northwestern Memorial, that the health system expanded it to cover its other Illinois campuses. Now from any device, Northwestern personnel can instantly access each life safety element’s location and maintenance history via as-built layouts.
The organization can generate a wide range of queries and reports based on criteria such as device type, location, and test results. The outcome of all this: Northwestern Medicine is meeting compliance standards with much more efficiency and accuracy.
