Tracing the steps from digitized blueprints to innovative facility management solutions.

In 1987, Advanced Technologies Group, Inc. (ATG) was started out of a home office by Mike Hakbaz, a structural and environmental engineer. Recognizing the potential of emerging technologies, Mike saw a way to address a growing need for healthcare organizations to manage their facility space more effectively.

In its formative years, ATG was a small group of people digitizing blueprints for local hospitals. It grew into a team of over 100 experienced architects, engineers, surveyors and application developers delivering comprehensive facility management solutions to health systems across the U.S.

A significant phase of this growth began in 1999, when the company initiated an expansion into cloud technologies. Led by Jay Balapa (Senior Director, IT Platform), the technology division developed a collaborative, highly visual online environment for managers and executives to leverage accurate, real-time facility data.

Now widely known in the healthcare industry simply as ATG, the company took another big step forward in 2016 when it became an integral part of healthcare efforts for JLL, a world leader in real estate services. Backed by the resources of a global organization, ATG soon widened its already established footprint in the regulatory compliance space.

In late 2019, after over 30 years as the driving force behind the organization’s success, Mike Hakbaz retired. The company, however, soon found itself in the capable hands of former Joint Commission director and long-time industry compliance expert, George Mills.

Under George’s guidance, ATG now looked the future with a two-pronged approach of providing the healthcare industry with expanded Architecture and Space offerings, while addressing regulatory issues with the most effective technologies available.

Now, in March 2022, JLL has asked for George to focus on their healthcare environment and compliance program’s innovation and standardization, and for Patrick Sloan to provide leadership for ATG in its focus on enhancing the client experience and relationship in order to respond to the client’s needs around compliance, the environment of care and physical assets management.
